Melbourne Hearts official (ish) Shopping List, Wingers

Wingers.

I promise, I solemnly swear that I was going to write about Iain Ramsay. Pace to burn and the ability to whip in a nice cross, combined with the return of resigned Mate Duganzic who will take some time to get back into everything, but was probably our most consistent winger, it’d be nice to see him just out on the pitch again, we missed him dearly this year. Gol Gol Mebrahtu and David Williams were hot and cold this year, Mebrahtu came with a bang against Perth, played very well in the third derby when called upon but was inconsistent, likely due to a combination of his style of play, combined with the managed game time he was given due to his OP injury. Williams is somewhat of an enigma, he used to fly for North Queensland, then endured an awful first year at Melbourne Heart, but regained some of his mojo this year, another good year would see him earn a lot of respect back, seems to have won the battle that saw him looking lethargic and a few kilo’s heavier last year, another big pre-season under his belt (no pun intended) and he should be ready to go. Ben Garuccio will turn 18 in the off season, a senior pre-season will do him the world of good, looked a bit timid at times, but the kid has undeniable talent, its a matter of harnessing it now. There is a fair bit of ability floating around in the reserves (especially as the wings lend themselves to younger players) in the form of Stefan Mauk and Paulo Retre who both look like good kids in the youth team, but have yet to have a chance to really experience senior football, Aloisi has indicated that they’ll get more next season, which is a promising move all round. Hopefully Richie Garcia hangs around for a few more seasons, with money now free’d up, the club would be mad not to chase him as he’d be a fine Australian marquee and with the turnover of players, a likely choice for captain.

Given a wealth of talent already available, something pretty special would have to come along to make it worthwhile
