A list of possible Australian marquee players.

So we’ve run through a possible list of players that Melbourne Heart should retain, purchase and the positions that they should look to strengthen, or adapt.

Firstly, some local marquee players, Richard Garcia would be great to retain as an Australian marquee, he did fantastically this year and every attempt should be made to keep him around. Lots has been spoken of Mark Bresciano but on a three year contract in Qatar, it would take some serious moving to try to get him back to Melbourne, perhaps not this year, but sometime in the future, the creativity he brings to the game is fantastic, but perhaps not yet. Scott MacDonald tends to score for fun domestically, but his lack of goals internationally has seen him disappear from the national set up, he’ll be turning 30 at the start of this new season and has some serious, serious footballing ability, he’d be a great signing, a Melbourne boy and more importantly, just so clinical in front of goal, a striker that Melbourne Heart has never had. Perhaps a bit of a left field selection, but Bailey Wright was an absolute class youngster playing in the VPL some years ago, still only 20 and off contract from League One, a left back with a terrific engine and an attitude to match, throwing some money at him would be a seriously good idea, they boy has undeniable talent, unlikely to want to come home at this stage, but off contract in July, so definitely worth a look. Dylan Tombides comes off contract at the end of this year too, the boy has had a truly traumatic year but has recovered from testicular cancer to get back in some form for the famous youth team at West Ham, will all but certainly be offered another contract, but given everything he’s been through, its worth an inquiry. If Garcia wasn’t resigned, my personal feeling is that everything, including kitchen sink and Hayden Foxe, should be thrown at Patrick Kisnorbo a series of really unfortunate injuries saw him loose his place in the Leeds starting line-up, however he’s always been a tough, hard-nosed defender who at 32, is the perfect age for defenders we should be looking at to provide support to the younger brigade.

Plenty to think about, hopefully some of these players will be seriously looked at. Many of these players would add a wonderful extra dimension to our side, either in the form of great experience or creativity.
